...is that Gary characterized Andrew Sullivan's endorsement of Kerry as a "meltdown" which destroyed Sullivan's credibility. Anyone who read the endorsement understands that a big part of Sullivan's disillusionment with Bush has to do with Bush's completely unnecessary embrace of the anti-gay-marriage amendment. Also, Sullivan had a few other bones to pick with Bush in the "traditional conservative" area.
This has more to do with the attempt here to discredit principled opposition than it does with Democratic, or liberal, characterizations of Bush voters.
If Sullivan's reaction was a "meltdown", with its accompanying implication of instability, and a major reason for the "meltdown" is Sullivan's opinion on Bush's gratuitous allignment of himself with people who oppose equal legal treatment for gays for religious reasons, then obviously the "correct" opinion to have is one which applies a venerable religious solution to abominations. Maybe stoning would have been more proper.
If people don't want opinions, they should not solicit them. If they want honest opinions, they should not spin the presentation of the facts through the use of inflamatory language. They may find the answer spun right back at them.
