...and certainly will deserve it. Jimmy Smits was nervous, Alan Alda showed himself to be the seasoned actor he is. It was fun to watch and easy to forget I was watching 'fiction.'
My fondest wish would be if the two parties saw the 'live debate' and got a clue--that people would like to see what their politicians of made of instead of the canned crap we're fed each election cycle. George Bush was so terrified of an unscripted, unprepared-for question, that no one but supporters were allowed at his campaign stops. That's cowardly. And a cheat.
We need an overhaul of the campaign system in this country and politicians who can actually think on their feet. Ever watch the Brits debate in the House of Commons? I watch every so often. Those guys/gals are trained to think on their feet. Which means, you're guaranteed they CAN 'think.' In this country, all we can be guaranteed is slick behind the scenes king-makers polishing their candidates until the gleam gets in your eyes and blinds you to the 'real' candidate.
BTW, one of my favorite characters on West Wing was the blond Republican gal who beat the crap out of Josh Lyman on a TV news-type show and then got hired by the White House in their legal department. She brought the 'other side' of the issues into view and I liked that.
The Republican Party is a parody of itself. It's gone so far right, it's forgotton what it was about. I think we need a new party called the Centrists which might pull the moderates from both parties and wipe the floor with both of them.

- Alan Alda playing a Republican...
- I thought he pulled it off.
- ... is like Carroll O'Connor playing Archie Bunker
- Exactly - political blackface
- If that is all you got from his performance, then that is very sad...
- Sad
- The Archie Bunker character was a simple minded bigot...
