Part of the reason that I expect Vinnic to be elected is because of Alan Alda. How can you not elect Hawkeye Pierce President? Even knowing full well it's just the same actor, three decades on, there was this indefinable sense that this is how Hawkeye's story after Korea would turn out. Turning Republican is mildly out of character, but of course Vinnic is a refreshingly moderate Republican.
Then there's Commander in Chief. Yawn. All the cliche story lines about the White House with a gender-reversal gimmick. The trials of domestic life in the WH has been done before, and substituting the male ego of a First Gentlemen for the frustration of a strong First Lady doesn't really bring anything new to the table. Yeah, people are skeptical of the first female President. Zzzzzz. Donald Sutherland's creepiness is normally entertaining, but it's over the top in a Speaker of the House. I watched the first couple of episodes, but it quickly became clear that it's not "appointment TV".
While we're on the subject of TV's Washington trifecta, there's E-Ring. Slightly better than CIC, but still an obvious attempt to cash in with a cross between CSI and West Wing.
70-some channels on basic cable, but most of them time there's nothing on.

- Anyone watch the West Wing 'debate'?
- Okay, this guy gave Alda's character a pretty good review.
- I caught part of it.
- Alan Alda will get an Emmy nom for the "live debate"
- Alan Alda playing a Republican...
- I thought he pulled it off.
- ... is like Carroll O'Connor playing Archie Bunker
- Exactly - political blackface
- If that is all you got from his performance, then that is very sad...
- Sad
- The Archie Bunker character was a simple minded bigot...
- If that is all you got from his performance, then that is very sad...
