Since this isn't Flame, I won't join the dogpile beating you up for having such a strong opinion about a TV show you've never really watched. I can only observe, gently, that the reaction you've gotten isn't entirely undeserved.
Sometimes we get locked into these endless arguments because it's not clear what the goal of the debate is, particularly what the other side is looking for. As for the latter, I'm not looking for you to apologize for your opinion. That's asking too much. I'd be pleased just to see some slight hint of humility, something like "well, OK, I admit I've never actually seen Alan Alda's portrayal of a Republican, so maybe my rocksolid certitude that was it anti-Republican wasn't based on fact. Got a little out in front of my headlights, I guess".
We've all been there. Even Conservatives aren't perfect. No dishonor in acknowledging the occasional gaffe. Can you admit to being human? If so, welcome to the club, bro!

- Exactly - political blackface
- If that is all you got from his performance, then that is very sad...
- Sad
- The Archie Bunker character was a simple minded bigot...
