Still mostly about process
Though I'll give you a half point for discussing what you see as wrong in the Hollywood portrayals of Conservatives. I'm still interested in finding out what you think a good portrayal would be like.
Up at the top of the thread, Tom posted a link to a review of Alan Alda's portrayal of a Republican in the West Wing debate; and since Tom posted it, you can be sure that it's a RightWing blog. Here's how that review concludes:
There were a few missteps here and there, but overall, it was the best defense of limited government I've heard from a candidate since Reagan. It figures, as a friend pointed out, Alda and Reagan are both actors.
Of course, the whole thing was a live version of the West Wing. But what I found interesting was how little they chose to caricature the Republican's views, at least in the part I saw. He wasn't a "compassionate conservative." And he wasn't a heartless monster. He was about as Jeffersonian as you could imagine. Whoever gets the Republican nomination the next time around ought to hire whoever wrote Alda's lines. It would be even nicer to have a candidate to choose from who actually believed those lines as well.

I think that Alda has created an admirable character in Senator Vinnick. The beauty of this cycle of the show is that both candidates are strong, and either one could make a good President. If you can't get your head around the idea of neutrality in Hollywood, at least trust to their self-interest: Portraying a truly competitive election leads to powerful drama that wins eyeballs. They needed a strong Republican character. And the way the storyline has progressed, I still give it better than 50/50 odds that Vinnick wins the election.
I think you're being a little too quick to denounce The West Wing and Hollywood in general. This Hayek blogger tuned into the show accidentally, and was pleasantly surprised. I think that RightWingers have deprived themselves of the pleasure of seeing a good portrayal of a Republican out of nothing more than prejudice. And that's kinda sad.
