..ok let's take Kevin's assumption that if the US bails out Iraq ruthlessly slaughters AQI.
Following that logic, US disengagement as the course of action around the world leads to the destruction of Al Qaeda.
It's exactly what Tom alluded to in his post. That US engagement is creating terror, that Al Qaeda finds no safe havens in 3rd world countries and that if we look the other way it will all go away and we 'can let the ignorant savages stew in their own 3rd world cesspool without soiling our hands'.
Kevin's basically advocating proxy bloodletting, and is not much different from the Saddam lovers - who talk about "order" under a brutal, murderous, torturing, genocidal leadership.
What I am wondering is, how exactly is that different from the left's aversion to the CIA using other nations to extract information? If we look the other way so that the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds can lop heads of AQI, while letting a civil war in which the Shiites and Kurds win - and that is his "solution" how in heck is that any better than the current situation?
That's pre-9/11 thinking. Let them kill themselves in their pigsty, and only if they crawl out of the sty will we address it. Newsflash Kevin: 9-11, the Cole bombing, a previous attempt at the WTC were all before Bush and many were when all the forces in the region were on the tiny island of Diego Garcia and, at the request of the Saudis, in a small camp outside Riyadh.
The problem of Islamofascism is a growing one and the borders are no longer holding. Turning a blind eye to it, doesn't make it go away. It just dooms western culture to eventual degradation and assimilation.
Education and serving as an example is what needs to be done now. The lives lost now will save millions later if we can get militant Islam to be reformed by the greater Islamic masses. Thats what this is all about now. About reformation of Islam into a globally acceptable religion. But those peaceful Islamic masses can't be abandoned to the militant ones - with the hopes that they will go psycho and act just as bad or worse than AL Qaeda! That's not the message we want to send out to Iraq or the Islamic struggle going on within Iraq's borders: "We're leaving now...so just go medieval after we've split and get Al Qaeda...ok?"
