But it is true.

You think that's the only damn post of his I've read?

Republicans call killing as many terrorists as they can "winning the war on terror", as though there will be nobody to take their place. That my friend, is real delusion.

Okay, other than taking out the terrorists, what's your solution?

Any idiot could have gone in and bombed the hell out of them, and gone home again declaring victory. The Clinton philosophy of War for the Limited Attention Span, in Bosnia, and Desert Fox.

Bush believed, rightly or wrongly, that by actually removing major tyrannies in the area, and rebuilding them as democracies, the root causes of terror in nations supporting it might be reduced. Afghanistan was obvious as a target. Iraq was chosen for a variety of reasons I've listed a number of times already. The limits of this idea have become apparent, but we're all open for other suggestions. Real ones.

I'm not seeing jack shit in solutions from your side on this, and the Democratic Party seems to be hoping that if their footwork is fast enough, nobody will notice. Simply invoking the words "hearts and minds" will work on the simpler mentalities, but most of us want to see details.

"It's taking too damn long."

Longer than WWII, I hear. Yet people forgot how we fought that war, with carpet bombs, firebombs, nuclear weapons, and the old idea that anything on the other side of enemy lines was a legitimate target. Almost four times as many civilians died in France alone than have died in the current Iraq war. The total toll of civilians in the war was over forty million. Nobody gave a shit about "hearts and minds" until after the enemy was thoroughly defeated.

You know, in any other war America fought in over two hundred years, I wonder if anyone in the war planning department ever stood up and said "This is taking too long. We need to set a deadline after which we will abandon the battlefield to the enemy. We will announce it loudly. This will end the war." If he had, he probably would have been thrown out the window. In the old days, this would have been considered nuts.

The most amazing thing is that this concept is now considered a normal method of conflict resolution by one of our political parties. "War deadlines." Telling the enemy "Hold out this much longer and you win!" When I point out that this is aiding the enemy by almost any definition you care to submit, people still get furious. Go figure.
