It all depends...

One man's 'secrecy' is another's 'privacy'. One man's 'accountability' is another's 'preferred method of sabotage'.

The difference between Cheney, Bush and other politicians is they are going into this term, realizing it is the last elected office they will ever hold - or want to hold. They don't give a darn about the media or how the media portrays them - and nothing bothers a prima donna media elitist than being ignored.

Cheney's smarter than Bush, but Bush has/had 'everyman appeal', whereas Cheney and Gore did/do not. Bill has/had 'everyman appeal' but Hillary does not. Obama doesn't have everyman appeal either and neither do any of the other democratic candidates running so far.

Obama appears like an 'intellectual black' and one merely needs to look at the way Condoleezza Rice is treated to see what baggage that carries.

Everyman appeal requires the holder appear like they would be comfortable sitting in a sports bar watching the big game and that they do not look as if there is someplace they would rather be. Judge the candidates thusly and you can pick your next President. Folks fear those smarter than themselves if they, themselves, are not very quick witted and resent them if they are. Cheney therefore becomes the cartoonish scowling icon of corruption, aka Bush's puppetmaster, folks of all levels are conditioned to despise.

The reality is much more complex than that.
