Carter?

In 1980, Reagan beat Carter, an incumbent president, by 8.4 million votes. As I recall, he carried all but six minor states and the People's Republic of DC.

This was with Fox News still 16 years in the future, and Rush Limbaugh still working with the Kansas City Royals.

Carter was a huge screwup almost across the board. It just ain't that easy to rewrite history nowadays.
