It's fun, but also like stretching a muscle I haven't used in a while. Easy to get trapped behind the event horizon of an intense technical project. I have some time, where else would I hang? The Zone gathers worthy opponents from all over :-)
"The Assault on Reason" was an inspiration to get back into participating not because of its author, but because of the indisputable idea that a democracy is stronger when all citizens participate freely in debate about the issues of the day. Very conservative, actually, holding up as a model a 19th century world in which political discourse was mediated by the printing press. I can't help but translate that into today and the Zone. We live by our words, just like those scrappy citizen-intellectuals of 19th century America. Or so the idyllic vision goes...but it resonates.
