The main difference between a presidential draft and a military one is -- of course -- the 'draftee' may refuse.
It has been reported recently that our volunteer armed forces have lowered their minimum standards (see also the latter stages of Vietnam-era conscription), while raising the maximum age of volunteers, in order to meet quotas.
It is hoped that, by contrast, the public's requirements for the volunteer Presidency have been raised to where another failure like the current incumbent would immediately be reclassified 4F.
It seems to me that those who lust after the job tend to be the kind of people you don't want in the job.
Absolutely -- also the second axiom (not my coinage, but a favorite):
Those smart enough to do the job are smart enough not to want it.
