I happen to think money and power is sufficient in Cheney's case but, like all the rest of the neocons, religion could certainly play a large part.
The whole concept of the inevitability of Armageddon seems like such an absurd notion to thinking and rational people but some of these freaks could certainly buy into their roles in carrying out the end game. They see more in the Mideast than just oil and dollar signs. The holy text they abide by insists on them committing warfare against any enemy of Israel to end up on the right side of judgment day.
Perhaps Cheney is well suited for this thought track since his life is long and his health problems could release his soul from its earthly bounds at any time. He might simply be doing all of this to ensure his own salvation. That's a creepy thought. Let's hope its wrong. Greed and power seekers you can deal with rationally. Religious zealotry is a bit more complicated.
