re: "... raw brains are not always a guideline for... success."

'Tis true. According to that article you linked to, I out-scored Gore by 31 IQ points and 20 SAT points... yet the life I have stumbled through could easily be deemed a failure, by those who measure potential exclusively from test scores and success from employment stability, income and possessions.

An intellectual is someone who deals with the abstract principles of human society and politics.

To which I would add literature, the other arts, and the sciences...

Note that this has more to do with what somebody thinks about than it does with their raw brain power.

Yes, but: It also requires the talent to express what one thinks about. Articulation was and remains painfully absent from the person that six-year-old article is ostensibly about... so painful to me, in fact, that I turn the radio down when his voice is about to emit therefrom.

I just noticed in that article: I have two dozen IQ points on Al Gore, and yet a lot of people here think I'm an idiot. ;)

Not I, sir... "Narrow-minded" is more accurate with regard to politics, yet partially redeemed by your cultural interests.

...but foxes don't do a lot of abstraction.

I beg to differ.
