Seven months, give or take a day or three, remain until February 5, 2008 -- the day when both parties' candidates will be chosen. Since you asked, and I have no qualms about sharing: I will vote for Obama that day. (I also have my eye on Bill Richardson, and wonder about an Obama/Richardson ticket...)
As for Big Al... I get the impression that the fish he has to fry are much bigger and less personal than a chance to be President for at least four years. He's embarked on nothing less than educating the entire electorate, not merely selling himself to them. I haven't read the book yet, but I did hear this interview (NPR's ATC, 5/22/07, with a link to a longer edition of the interview, and an excerpt from the book).
It's been a long time since I've referred here to The Fourth Turning by Strauss and Howe, but their basic theory of generational cycles has stuck with me... and so has the image which with they open the book: the Gray Champion. I believe Mr. Gore wants to be one, and I don't blame him. Given the time and resources, I'd aspire to that role, too.
