re: The problem with anecdotal evidence

People, by nature, tend to be outspoken with complaints, and rarely come forward with praise, so the samples tend to be self-selecting.

Not really - I selected the samples, in other words I acknowledged there were good stories too, however as I pointed out:

I do admit to selecting the ones critical of your system, for the reason that they were frequent enough to warrant serious attention.

Somewhere else I recall you mentioning you pay or used to pay, $300 US per month insurance. I pay about $100 US per month for full insurance, here in Australia. And, I paid $18 for a flu vaccination recently. How much are those in your area?

As you are not covered by employer insurance (I assume, as you're self-employed), I wonder how you do get by, given your wife's very unfortunate condition. In my case, I was out of pocket for no more than a few hundred bucks in 2002 in the Sydney Eye Hospital.

Sounds like the US system is great for people who can afford it, especially those covered by employer insurance. Doubt I would manage too well, though. Especially with all those pre-existing conditions - I wouldn't get the insurance in the first place, by the sound of things.
