re: Some notes on health care

Very good synopsis Tom.
I was going along with it pretty smoothly, getting ready to interject that our system is broken because of the class disparities that have arisen since the Reagan years, (where the Right held most of the countries purse strings since then) and then you said this:

>"you have to take it away from the economically-illiterate Left and give it to people who know how money works and where it flows."

Oh, like the Right I suppose?
I would say that's the REASON there is such a "divide" economically the past three decades is because the conservatives found a way to funnel the tax dollars into their own pockets,....the back scratching, rear patting, hand greasing politics that helped to the change laws, protect corporations and sextuple the CEO's annual salaries. With this renewed and protected wealth, it was easier to downsize and call the shots, insurance companies started their illegal and unscrupulous practises of denying coverage and procedures and were able to give BONUSES to the directors and their lawyers who saved them money.

I agree with some of your solutions, but it won't change unless we can prosecute the abusers of a system gone wild. Lately, "oversight committees" are a thing of the past because they are lobbied and greased too. Even "whistleblowers" aren't even protected anymore.
I don't see anyway now to cahnge any of this.

Mexicans and blacks seem to be able to get cheaper health care than whites. Colonoscopies are several thousand across the board if you have no health insurance. Simple blood tests and annual screenings run into the thousands, while others enjoy those screening as their health plan.
The labs, doctors and hospitals need to reduce the prices of pre-ventative care and regular procedures. However, most doctors are allowed to run those labs for profits and often gouge their patients for it BECAUSE they have health insurance.
