You actually think things would get better under a government ran system? Take a look around at every other government program and how it's ran. Take your pick, from Nasa, the Postal Service, to the veterans' medical system. Back when Medicare was first proposed back in the 60s, it was projected that the program would cost $8 Billion/yr by the year 2000, in reality it costed over $400 Billion in 2000. I really don't want a bureaucracy that has a history of paying $10 for a bandaid, or $1000 for a hammer to control the purse strings of our entire medical system.
BTW, I do work in a hospital, and I see firsthand the garbage that comes in on a weekly basis. Having to take care of the drunks, crack/meth heads, and other assorted filth is the main reason our system is getting swamped to where those in real need are getting pushed aside. Check out your local ER on the first of the month or on a Friday or Saturday night. You'll see what I'm talking about real fast.
