re: "Our current health care system ....works"

Ignore the forest, find the tree.

You and your fear of the "Nanny State".
You are full of...well........biases, and misguided fears. Can we talk again AFTER you've seen the movie? Because it covers some glaring inconsistencies in your thinking, and that of some of your conservative friends. As a matter of fact, this movie (although non-partisan) is right in your face about some painful facts of life....... right here in America. And they don't center around complaints of the those with Alzheimers getting poor care in England. It actually addresses people DYING from lack of proper health care in the US. Not a complaint, Tom. Actual deaths, amd lots of them. No one dies in Canada, or France or Cuba (the countries covered in the movie), from lack of care or cancer, because everyone is treated.......for everything.

And antibiotic resistant germs are everywhere, even here in the US, along with unsanitary conditions. You picked the first things you could find, and once again, it's a tiny splinter in a big wood house.

>"Shared misery is the normal result of collectivization of anything."

You are so full of it I can hardly rationalize where you are coming from.
I am a Canadian Tom, and I grew up there. There is no "shared misery" up there. I might be forced to go back and live there as I get older because I may never have health insurance again. Here I'd rot in the streets, or lose all my life savings and anything I managed to own by your health "care", that would drain my family of anything that might be left should it be a debilitating condition.

People work their whole lives here in the states, put their kids through college, and then end up broke and in debt, because of medical bills . People are paying $100 for prescriptions that cost other countries one dollar. Yes, I can tell you the cost of living is expensive in Canada,
but right now their dollar is on par with ours, for once.

YOU have not one leg to stand on in your cloistered fairy tale. YOU can sit atop your smug retreat and look down on the rest of Americans who don't have the good fortune you have financially. YOU never have to worry about getting cancer, do you? For one, tests are actaully covered in your policy, I'm sure.
Give me any more of your elitist crap and I'll see you over on Flame.
