...and the sunrise in the desert is spectacular, as always. I watch as Camelback Mountain turns from mauve to gold as the glow of the dawn starts to illuminate a combination of QuickTrips (QTs) and cacti. The air is muggy and the monsoon season seems to be stronger this year than last.
But the beauty of the morning is lost on me. I have just received a military alert that the nuclear power plants all over the nation have been the target of terrorist explosive devices. The Palo Verde Nuclear Station has a huge holes in two reactors that are unable to be repaired. Phoenix will be drowning in deadly radiation in fifteen minutes. APS is asking the Governor to order a mass evacuation. Janet's office is in shock and each minute they delay may cost tens of thousands of lives.
I fear it may not matter. The winds are too strong and will blow radiation too quickly. Many folks living in South Phoenix are already doomed. Shamballa is in lockdown. Underground we are safe from the radiation, but our staff has homes and families throughout the valley and there are folks who want to leave to collect their families.
Sadly California is not much better off. San Onofre was hit hard and folks from San Diego to Orange County want to flee here - unaware that Arizona was hit hard too. I just ordered my family to get into the shelter and will order them up to Flagstaff if it is safe to do so.
We have one of the very few bomb shelter in the region, and the contractors already thought we were nuts, because folks don't even have basements or storm cellars in Arizona, much less concrete shelters with blast doors. They have food and water supplies for about three weeks - four if I cant join them. Knowing they are somewhat safe is the only positive thought I can wrap my head in right now.
New Mexico has been hit as well. They have no nuclear plant but the nuclear waste storage facility in the Chihuahua desert was breached with, what folks assume, is some sort of small buried nuclear device. Radioactive waste and radiation is being picked up by the winds and threatens Sante Fe.
Riots are being reported all over as folks try and escape the invisible airborne death.

President Bush has just declared a national state of emergency and deployed military assets to assist the National Guard units of the 37 states so far identified as hit. The government is in lockdown.

Unbelievable! Some folks are saying Bush planned all this, that he is taking over the country to be dictator for life. The military units deployed are being attacked by rioters in Los Angeles and New York. Some folks don't believe there is radiation on the air at all! Many saying they "can't see it!"

It's a nightmare. Riots have taken over the US. Emergency services are completely overwhelmed, understaffed and often physically unable to respond. It's so much worse than 9-11, it's the end of the United States as we know it. Lawlessness rules the land. Murder, car theft, gasoline theft is rampant. The few shelters that exist are being attacked violently by folks demanding to be let in - often by the same folks who have denied we needed to have shelters, because they were "provocative". Fortunately, my family is safe for now. No one knew we had a shelter built, besides the contractors, and most our neighbors thought it was just a simple room addition.
Most of the populated US states are radioactive. Our military bases overseas were attacked simultaneously and the chain of command has been disrupted. Bush and Cheney have been taken to two separate installations - and Cheney's is an alternate location from the pre-chosen one, due to already present radiation danger.
The government is in a shambles, even the best plans have gone amuck as everyone is only looking out for themselves. Air traffic is grounded, asides from military operations, but many pilots and irradiated regions are ignoring the order, believing taking flight will be their only chance of survival.
What will happen after a few months and the initial radiation dies down? How will people eat if our crops are irradiated and deadly toxic? Some folks think it would have been more merciful to tens of millions if they had been blown to smithereeens by the Russkies in a nuclear war.

We are now paying the price for our lack of preparation. Bush nor Cheney have issued any messages. No one knows if they live or not. The government seems to have been destroyed. Most military units were overcome or units disbanded and deserted.
The first waves of the early dead are now accumulating all over the nation. No one is touching them and they are being left in the streets, cars and wherever.
Here at Shamballa, there is deep sadness and depression. I've let some folks leave who begged to be let loose. The sense of futility and fear for the future is already overwhelming. The United States, as we knew it, is gone. What little we can pick up from the outside world is this:
"The US had it coming."
Moral of story (which should be obvious) : We NEED continuity of government plans and Executive Orders. We NEED shelters and a proactive anti-terror stance. If anything, most Americans are living in denial of the dangers we face, and how much WORSE off we will be if our government falls.
