How much more Liberal would America be if Conservatives hadn't bitterly opposed every progressive initiative on the hysterical grounds that it would lead to Commnism?

How much more Conservative would America be if Liberals hadn't bitterly opposed every swing to the Right on the grounds that it would led to Fascism?

Do you think, just maybe, that for either side, the time to push back is well before our worst nightmares are realized? Ya think, just maybe, that our system requires that we anticipate and push back in order to maintain the vector sum in the middle?

Do ya think, just maybe, that if we wait to see whether an authoritarian like Bush has malevolent designs, it might just be too late?

Reasonable people are guided by the principle that where there's smoke, there may well be fire. But you're demanding that we wait fror the flames to engulf us before acting. That demand is foolish and unreasonable; you're demanding the sort of behavior that wins Darwin Awards.

Evolution equipped the human brain with the ability to extrapolate because the ability to extrapolate and act on those extrapolations enhances survival. Use it, or lose it.
