It's instructive to see where you have to squeeze some people to get the libertarian to pop out. I know some "progressives" who think prostitution should be legal, but not trans-fats.
I don't think it should be illegal, either, but that's a matter of consistent principle. Same for marijuana.
I'm not sure legalizing it would improve things, given our culture's increasing lack of moral underpinnings. You take training wheels off or stop holding the seat when the kid can ride the bike. If he's never learned how, he'll get hurt.
I don't think "legal" and "right thing to do" are congruent sets. They never have been.
That being said, I don't think I've ever seen any ex-prostitutes who were made better and more healthy persons for their experience. Or drug users, come to that.
