"We have legal gambling but illegal gambling is still rampant. We have legal aliens but illegal aliens are still a major problem.
Does the legalization of prostitution in any way imply that we would then be able to control the illegal trade in sex. "
Depends how well governed the prostitution industry was managed. Generally speaking, I can see why you would doubts about this.
The same argument of course applies to "illegal drugs".
Generally speaking, I would favor legalizing prostitution and street drugs- well aware that we would do a poor job at it. We of course are already doing poor job at inhibiting or prohibiting either- and wasting tax dollars doing so. And in sense subsidizing crime.
Ideally, I would want people to be educated that prostitution and drug use is immoral and unwise. And have both as legal activities.
But what are the chances of that?
Advocating space colonies is more realistic.
