It was on the front page of the local paper today, and I confess my first reaction was much like Lee's...how MANY girls have to be so promiscuous that 1 in 4 get a STD?
He also has a point about the rap culture that promotes promiscuity as a badge of honor and the videos and films which portray "cool" kids as those who sleep around with a new partner each week. They are the "popular kids" in school whom other insecure kids try to emulate.
It's all too obvious promiscuity=popularity in the minds of far too many teen girls.
You simply can't have that sort of statistic pop up without a serious cultural disaster going on around all these girls to support it.
It's a wake up call.
I look at the teen girls and their boy/girl partners, I look at the music industry, I also look at our failed education system, but I blame the parents.
Where in heck are the parents? I know the stay home mom is almost extinct but still...what sort of morality have we sunken to that 25 percent of the next generation's wives will have to start out their marriages by telling their husbands they have a STD?
It's frightening. Shocking, in fact. And not much shocks me these days.
Flame » in reply to Lee does have a certain point...
It's a touchy subject.
