Most likely because of the people leading it. Most of those are humans who all to rarely exemplify Christianity.
God punishing us for not getting our acts together? I live under "Grace." If someone exemplifies evil, yes, they will be punished by being forever separated after death from God and from those whom God loves. Those who fall in between, who've done or said bad things but are not evil--they will mostly punish themselves. But since God is IN us, then it could be said that God is punishing. So much is misunderstood and misread. How to correct it all? Life is not long enough to do that.
When we pass on, we will review our life. Christ will judge us. The punishment will be in knowing I've done some things that did not honor God. That will hurt almost beyond endurance.
It's good I just reminded myself of that so thank you for this conversation.

- Dear Eri and Reb,
- REB, I'm not upset with praying. It's scientifically analyzing it that makes me crazy.
