People can believe what they want

It's when they push their half-baked ideas out to others that the offense begins.

If all the folks out there were as bright as you, I wouldn't even care but clearly we're dealing with this huge colony of humans that are easily swayed by the snake oil salesmen of the world.

I used to be content to just shut up and keep to myself when the religiously ridiculous reared their ugly heads. They were simply laughable but it's become clear to me that even if 20 percent of our population is made up of these nuts, (as evidenced by the numbers of folks holding Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Pat Robertson in high esteem) we're in the midst of millions of very scary and creepy folks.

I think it's folly to believe they'll just sit back with their wacky ideas and no harm will come from them. More and more each day it becomes clear that they must be stood up to, embarrassed, and any time they reach for power they must be slapped down loudly and forcefully. Otherwise, there's another 30 percent of our public that seem to not be able to distinguish between normal and fruitcake and they get lulled into nodding along and we end up with goons like GWB for our President.

You see REB, you didn't need that website for you to know how to use prayer for your own needs and comfort. It's basically a no-brainer if you have even low levels of faith. There's this almighty power. You want to chat with him about life. You just do it.

What places like this site appeal to are not people with your basic need. They are aiming for folks that gravitate towards strong authoritarian control, firm sets of black and white rules, absolutes. There is a true underlying evil and anti-evolutionary pulse to it all even if the author isn't aware of it. The thought process that goes into building a site and "organization" like that one is exactly why Muslim women are walking around with tents over themselves peering out at the world through a tiny slit. One's brain must have severe synaptic cross-circuitry to ever wake up one morning and decide the world must know that much detail about prayer. Yet to a huge number of Christians, they would excuse the person's actions because he or she is trying to do the work of God, Jesus, or Mohammed. The effort is to be applauded because they're acting on their spiritual convictions. Slowly the faithful get numb to absurdity if someone isn't continually telling them that the person is actually a fruitcake and a serious contender for a straight jacket.

I'm that guy on the street corner with the bullhorn screaming that the emperor has no clothes. Flame seems an appropriate spot.
