I'm for protecting all Americans. That means a strong military and economic policies that do not just favor a select few. That hasn't changed , and I've challenged Tom many times on Bush economic policy.
Iraq has indeed split the country and put off solving problems. That is everyone's fault including most here as rational debate has been replaced with slander and inuendo and stupid sloganeering. People deny facts like oil company profits rising with oil prices to claim the war was faught to get cheap oil and the other side ignores rising casualties to proclaim all is well. It has been a sickening episode of denial, hatred, and self dellusion. Bush had good intentions, but poor management skills and a lack of objectivity. The lies the Democrats told played into his self deception by allowing him to believe he wasn't full of shit just because they were.
I'm proud of all the long ignored issues Obama is tackling, but am afraid the Bush backlash will carry things too far, and that the rush to fix long ignored problems will result in many bad unintended consequences. I'm for health care reform even if it means nationalization, but not "reform" that only increases coverage and does nothing to reduce costs. I'm for dealing with global warming, but not in an arbitrary cap at any cost manner. I am definitely for taking away the ability of CEO's to rob their shareholders and the public.
I have no doubt things can get better, but only if people stop politics as a blood sport based on tired old dogmas and get down to real data and realistic options along with the realization that we have to stop passing costs onto future generations.
Regards,
Mark
