True, but derivatives grew tremendously during Bush administration and anti-regulation is part of the Republican platform. However, money buys access and favors no matter which party is in power which is why I really dislike underserved accumulation of wealth. This is supposed to be a democracy not a plutocracy/cleptocracy. Wealth should go to those that move society ahead (growth businesses and breakthrough technology), not caretakers and parasites.
The key issue here is that a democratic government is answerable to everyone while a business answers only to it's owners and immediate customers who are still in reach. I believe in democracy first capitalism second. Both are flawed because they depend on balancing human flaws to come up with what is the best overall course to benefit everyone. Both can be warped from the fair path by an accumulation of power, but that is easier in the commercial field. There are no better alternatives in my view, but democracy should stay preimminent.

Mark
