Current Events » in reply to "As long as Saddam can be deterred and contained"

Re:

Tom, I am off to bed here on the east coast, but I promise (as always) I will read and reply more later this weekend (as your posts are always worth thinking over). One point, though.

Tom:
"And if you think a permanent U.S. military presence based throughout the Arabian peninsula, which would be the minimum required to "deter and contain" Saddam, would make the Arabs any happier than they are now, you are probably mistaken. "

Tom, and you must understand that we will be now running a whole adjacent arabic country and basing a huge amount of military there, possibly for a decade or more, not much further away from mecca and other sacred sites? Running an arabic country isn't going to make us any more friends than keeping an army in Saudi arabia.

In fact, the natives in Saudi Arabia- you know, the ones the saudi 'princes' have been alternatively opressing and making sure they get a good hateful wahabai schooling, just might get good and uppity once the US tanks are out of Saudi Arabia- and they just might make a sequel to the fall of Iran. And before you make the claim that I am for this, don't bother, I'm not. Its just a real possibility.

Also, what id the wahabai brandname moves in along with mikkie-D's and M-16? How well can we play the role of the saudi princes? Sadam has used awful tactics to keep the islamists out of Iraq, thats why he is hated among radical muslims... What will we do?
