Jeez.

The car ran for longer than expected. Eventually - not too much longer, I'm sure - it would have seized, and then would have been a worthless piece of junk. But if it had been taken care of properly, it would have been a useful device for a long time.

Almost anything will keep running for a while without proper maintenance. Including the Earth.
