When I was in college, the environmentalists made predictions that, had they come true, we would all be dead by now.
I estimate a good eighty percent of the current environmental movement is in service of an agenda to place all human economic activity--and eventually all activity--under a rigid and all-powerful central authority. Run, no doubt, by the same enlightened folks in charge of the environmental movement.
Sorry, I ain't buying it. I know who and where these collectivists were before they decided it was a lot easier to represent spotted owls than "the working class." For one things, spotted owls don't rise up in revolt when you decide to do something nasty to them "for their own good."
Will resources become scarce? Sure. Some will. Then, assuming we have freedom of action, we'll think of something else. I'm sure forward-looking ancient Celts were wondering what the heck they would burn when the peat ran out.
One of the main reasons I've been pushing space exploitation all my life is precisely to get beyond terrestrial resource limits.
