The only way humans can continue to even survive on Earth for more than a couple of hundred years is for population growth to slow considerably. At the current rates of change, according to this site, in 148 years world population will reach 42 billion - a strain even for the most optimistic views. The site gives an indication that world pop will reach about 9 billion around 2050 and then begin to decrease slightly. Too many variables to really say.
