You've seen this before, I'm sure - you go to cons:
Reality is for those incapable of dealing with Science Fiction
Sure, the books I cited are science fiction - they also examine, in serious terms, possible alternatives to 'your' One True Way that may also lead to desirable ends without restricting individual liberties.
As to Rand:
- I'm not surprised to see her works in your recommended list; fortunately, my roommate is a fan and former Objectivist, and owns many of them.
- You're also old enough to recall the days when The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged were marketed as - ready for the irony? - science fiction.
Since your libertarian tendencies are, by your own telling, partially informed and illustrated by R.A. Heinlein, dismissal of content by reason of packaging is, um, less than consistent.
Anyway, thanks for the book list.
