So your conslusion is that because we enabled tyrants in the past we should continue to do so? I was never in favor of that and making up for those poor choices and the damage to the regiuon is part of the reason why I am so adamant about responsibility to change things for the better there. You gave excellent examples of what I was talking about with regard to past mistakes earlier. I believe such mistakes require redress, do you believe they should be forgotten about?

My conclusion is, partially, that past behavior has become perpetual self-justification for continuation of the same behavior. It was wrong then, it's wrong now, and it always will be wrong. The Ugly American is not just a novel, and a movie with Marlon Brando in the cast - it's been a "way of life" for US foreign policy, no matter which political party held the reins in Washington.

Our disagreement is not about goals, nor about why those goals were necessary. Our disagreement is about the means used to achieve those goals.

I am unable to see how past mistakes in the Middle East are redressed by the recent war or its ill-planned aftermath. Perhaps $87 billion more will change that. We probably could have purchased a regime change in Iraq for a fraction of that.
