Could it be that no one really gave a damn until Kerry made it a big deal

Look, he tossed away his medals in a large public display of his solidarity with those liars at VVAW.
Now he argues over them as if they were secret paths to the Holy Grail.
He dissed them then, and he misleads about them now.
His claim that his Silver Star has a 'V' is untrue. The Navy does not issue that type of medal.
His claim about his seared memory of Christmas in Cambodia inspite of Nixon's protestations to the contrary is untrue.
He pushed through the papers for his 1st Purple Heart inspite of its being a self-inflicted wound, which is not how Purple Hearts are given out.
Any alleged conflict in the SBV story is used to totally call them liars at every point by some.
There are clear conflicts in Kerry's story, but that seems OK with some.
But what really bothers SBV is the way he treated his fellow servicemen.
Medal of Honor winners who were being tortured by the NVC in Hanoi distinctly remember the happiness of their captors at playing the tapes of Kerry's testimony over the PA in the prison. They also distinctly remember how betrayed Kerry made them feel when they were forced to hear it.
Kerry brought this up.
He started the claims about his band of brothers.
Kerry made claims about where he spent Christmas in SE Asia.
Kerry said the quality of his service in Vietnam is what qualifies him to be CIC.
His claims do not take the issue off the table, and the fact that he makes claims about military service dose not make them true.
