Poor Art!

You just haven't been here long enough to know the real reason everyone walks on eggshells around Mary Anne. First she was very sweet in that polite librarian manner with polite little posts. Then she asserted herself a bit and was slammed down pretty hard by the conservatives here.

Then she split.*
Then Fox split.

She was going to find a board where more civilized and people who didn't give her heartburn resided.

Then the community re-evaluated their behavior. I actually led the reformation at the time and tried to rally a more civil level of discourse.

When she returned she made it clear she was unsure whether it was worth it posting here at all and she would test the waters. However, everyone was generally more respectful, etc. Then as time went by...she became a "psycho hose beast" for the left agenda and politeness went right out the window and was replaced with an abrasive edge--like steel wool on glass.

Now she speaks her mind without any real restraint and lots of vituperation. I don't really blame her, but "eloquent" is not a fitting description of her posts. She researches and provides more information than most of the left do here, but it's still steel wool and glass.

I don't know when & where the "reverence for MA" club started, but I suspect it was intially Tom who has been desperately seeking a poster of equal calibre to debate with and didn't want to drive her off again. The second factor is there have been way too few women here on the HZ over the years. Space, the ostensible theme here, is just a bit of a put-off for most women. I suspect Star Trek boards have few females as well. Space is perceived as being "geeky."

A semi-comprehensive list:

Marcia
Lindy**
Mary Anne**
Betty
Katie Brosz (Tom's daughter)
Beth (MA's daughter)

That's about it after almost 5 years! A really exclusive club. **Only Lindy and Mary Anne post regularly. That's part of the reason for the eggshell dance. Pu--y whipped male posters have nothing to do with the board chemistry here.

There's SO much more but that's a basic rundown of the past four years.

*I split too, 2 years later. Over the years one sees who one's friends are and soon you realize that no matter how much of one's viewpoint one shares everyone here really has very few if any "friends" and really are just somewhat addicted to the conflicts created by posting. I was never addicted to the conflicts...just the posting views. Now with a blog, I can mostly just watch here and post when the fancy strikes me. Once one can reach a much, much larger audience and one drops the illusion that anyone here is your friend, the HZ addiction is almost completely purged from one's system. But now you're hooked too..you poor fool!
