re: Even the title of your thread helps answers your own question, IMO

You're very right in that pointing out my observations I ran the risk of trivializing her but heck, you just can't start a good heated discussion these days without pushing the envelope a bit.

I think the one thing that makes it all relevant though is that, with 15 to 20 regular posters on here, we have how many women, a couple? I find it very tough these days to find women to talk politics with that don't just roll their eyes when the topic comes up or quickly tell me they don't follow the news. It's that very general disinterest in voting-age women that makes a person like Mary Anne stand out and be treated differently. Martin Luther King was rated not only as wonderful orator and champion of human rights but also treated differently than every other statesman of the time because he was black. The very fact that he was one of the few truly motivational speakers of his ethnic background made him stand out and that distinction was always part of his message.

As far as being intimidated or fearful of the wrath of Mary Anne, any reference I make about her dominatrix persona, is simply joking. I find her warm, funny and not at all threatening.

It's just fun to watch some of our more viscious posters get all warm and fuzzy when she enters the fray. Sometimes I almost wish I disagreed with her on stuff. It'd be fun to be on the receiving end.
