"If you think the people of the US could not do better with those $trillions than what the SS administration has deliviered"
Jesus, Ed, I am getting the creeping feeling I get when I talk to Johannes, that this is a lost cause, your not going to listen to what I say, and I should give up now. But let me walk through it again.
My concern has never been that the US taxpayer could not get a higher return on average in the stock market, my concerns have been
1) The effect on the free markets, variable on how this is handled, but not being minor in any conception.
2) The Inevitable rise in the size of Gov't needed to run, monitor, and handle this
3) The fact that we are needlessly endangering/abandoning a system that has worked for 70 years in favor of an experiment that could backfire, and is monkeying with the engine of free-market capitalism
4) The fact that some people are going to invest poorly, and if the consequence of that poor investing places them below subsistence living in their old age, they will be foisted back on the taxpayer.
That doesn't cover all the concerns, but thats 4 of the biggies.
"I submit that is closer to hogwash than what I point out.
Be my guest. You can assert whatever you want, doesn't make it true, reasonable or even having any bearing on what I am saying.
The point is, which the SS deniers are avoiding,is that it delivers very little at an immense cost.
SS Deniers? Is this like Bush Haters or Saddam Lovers? This is how you are going to try to conduct this debate, you and your crap talking allies? Be careful, because eventually the bevy will turn on you. Sloganism will only get you so far.
SS delivers ~2-3% above inflation, which is what the Gov't T's its invested in return, and its benefit is inflation linked and more-or-less guarantees a minimum living standard above starvation. The proposed plans don't, will cost the tax payer more, and entail certain risks that nobody has examined. If you want a perfect retirement plan, move to Fantasia, otherwise: Ed, meet real world.
