This
1) Does not fix SS
2) SS is not 'broken' in any case, like any investment structure it needs adjustments
3) Actually causes SS to break (alters one of the fundamental notions- namely that each generation pays for the last one)
4) Motivated by smoke and mirrors.
I have no problem in principle with private tax-free investment accounts. However, the only realistic way for this to work without results in
1) The US government becoming the largest investment holder in America, by far or
2) The US govenrnment effectively controlling individual companies/funds/etc by 'approving' them for investment ir
3) Allowing the individual to make unwise choices, guaranteeing that some people will not be able to subsist in retirement age, being too old to work, and being foisted back on the taxpayer anyway
No, I oppose his as a 'Fix' to social security. I support under some very lassez-faire rules completely tax free but federally mandated investments, but NOT at the expense of Social Security providing a bare minimum level of subsistence (which it BARELY does now).
