"The Social Security system as it stands cannot sustain itself in the face of demographic certainties unless we just give up and recognize it as a massive universal welfare system that will tax the hell out of younger people in the future."
By all accounts I have read, a 2-5 year rise in the retirement age, or a 1-2% rise in payroll tax, or bumping the 90,000 of income up to 120,000 of income pretty much assures solvency indefinately.
SS is not fundamentally broken, this is propaganda. It needs adjusting to refelect the change in demographics and retirement length and cost, but to say an adjustment is indicitive of the End Of The System, or it being fundamentally flawed is Chicken Little at best
and fearmongering, actually, to push an agenda.
