Actually...

The reason I haven't been jumping all over posts lately, with a few choice exceptions, is that I discovered a couple of things:

First of all, most of the leftist posters here are relatively immune to argument. I find myself repeating the same things over and over again. When the Katrina thing came up, I was amazed that talking points that had been obliterated months ago were coming up again as though nothing had ever been said on the issue at all.

Second, almost every hysterical flap raised out there by the Left and the media tends to fall flat after a week or two. I'm starting to see that there is not much point in wasting time arguing issues that were pretty much DOA. Recent examples include Fitzmas, Cheney's gun accident, the Great Katrina Videos, and the Imminent Fall of Iraq, which has been imminent for two years now.

This was the tack taken by the Democrats and their supporters prior to the 2004 election. Keep the attacks coming, keep them going, and don't let a week go by without a new one.

Think that'll work? I heard somebody on the radio say "The only thing that keeps me voting Republican is the Democratic Party." Current Democratic policy is a vacuum so absolute, that if you stuck it between galaxies it would start pulling in atoms. I spend a lot of time cruising the liberal boards, and there is a lot of frustration in the blogosphere about the lack of ideas to rally around. Some possibilities include universal health care and alternative energy. They can pretty much write off national defense.

Howard Dean's defense plan:

"The Democrats have a better idea. First we will conclude the negotiations with the Chinese and the North Koreans to disarm North Korea. Secondly, under no circumstances will a Democratic Administration ever allow Iran to become a nuclear power. Three, we will kill or capture Osama bin Laden and four, the authority and the control of the ports of the United States must be retained by American companies."

Geez, why didn't anybody else think of that? Details? Oh, come now.

A blogger points out that this kind of verbal vaporware is typical of the Democratic Party.

If the Democrats think "Bush sucks" is enough to gain the confidence of the electorate, go for it.

My life is not controlled by corporations. I can tell Bill Gates to jump in the lake. I can't do that with the most menial local government official. Most of the idea that "corporations run everything" is largely a leftist hallucination.

Count up the number of government employees and bureaucrats who have a say in how you do business or run your life. The ones who run the regulatory and government agencies. Thousands of them. How many of them did YOU actually get to vote for? Or vote out?

Most are just lifetime employees that you can't fire any more than you can fire a manager at Microsoft. The idea that somehow government is more "accountable" than a corporation, which lives and dies by customer satisfaction, is also a hallucination.

For every Enron, there are hundreds of American companies that do great jobs turning out good products for a good price. Nobody looks at them twice.

As for your idea, redistributing wealth by government force is still redistributing wealth. Where do you think all that "investment capital" is going to come from? And by the way, who gets to decide who gets the money?

For some reason, government is the only monopoly liberals aren't afraid of.
