Nobody would deny that it's imposible for news reporting to be absolutely objective, because unless it's a report on a scientific discovery, all news is about the subjective world of people. Neither the participants nor the reporters can be completely objective.
But the RightWing reliance on claims that the media is biased, whether or not as a conscious conspiracy, is nothing more than making excuses for the failures of Republicans. It's just the small-minded whine that if only people knew the "truth" about Republicans, nobody'd ever vote Democrat.
Yeah, sure. One point of view is that the more people know about Republicans, the less likely they are to vote for them, but that's just my opinion...based on knowing a lot about Republicans and their beliefs. Here at the Zone I get the "truth" as Republicans see it entirely unfiltered by the media, and you haven't converted me. What makes you think that the media is reponsible for the wider failure of Republicanism to sweep the country?
And are you and Tom really more open-minded because you're convinced that everything said in the "MSM" is "bullshit", and you believe only the approved RightWing sources like Fox "News" and press releases from a Republican White House? Oh, puhleeeeeeease!
"Well, ok then. I why bookmark it. I'll we will see how you feel thing are going after Nov. Shall we?"
Sorry, I really mangled that. I guess I was conflicted in having you bookmark it or me doing it. It's the dread of the paperwork.
I'll bookmark it [sigh] and try to remember and find it, 8 months from now.
I'm not too clear what you're expecting me to do in November. Of course I'd be disappointed if Congress isn't liberated from Republican control. But that's more about making the first step on the path to general reform. We have two parties, at any given time one of them holds more power than the other, and so it's always the party in power you have to deal with first.
The importantce of the November elections is that they're the next point in time in which reform is possible. That reform would have to begin with a Republican defeat simply because Republicans hold power; but I see that as enabler of further reform, not the goal itself. Conversely, failure to dislodge Republicans from Congress would doom any hope of reform, for at least another couple of years.
