Your fixation with rich republicans and the rich in general is amazing. I'm reminded of the scene from Star Trek episode Wolf in the Fold where the Jack the Ripper entity has been clearly identified and starts possessing various members of the crew and starts speaking through them. Everyone on the left here channels the same Marxist demons.
The truth is pretty straightforward:
Great governments - such as the US government - were founded by educated rich men. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, et al - were "wealthy elite".
For a clear difference we need only look back, less than 100 years, to 1918. The Bolsheviks, both the poor uneducated and the simply poor and educated, founded Soviet Russia.
The poor russians were trained and educated to hate the Bourgeois rich Russian classes and when give the opportunity their hatred, resentment and jealousy poured out into a murderous rage. Burning homes, killing folks they didn't even know, swept up in an anti-rich mob.
The same vituperation present in some liberals here and is par for the Bolshevik course. Your obsession with wealth blinds you to the truth.
Wisdom can come from education but the seeker of wisdom must attain balance first. The wealthier classes, like it or not, have achieved a certain material balance in their lives. They are not looking around desperately as who has more than they do, nor do they fear where their next meal is coming from. When such folk receive an education they do not strip from it only the class warfare stuff that the poor often do.
The poor, grab for what they can in haste. They form mobs to feel empowered and are generally destructive to society. When they do obtain power, they end up far worse and prejudiced than the folks they displaced. The poor when give power often become tyrants, dictators and mass murderers.
Why?
Because they feel they have suffered years at the hands of some exclusive group that kept them out. They are in the grip of a deep psychosis. This perceived 'suffering' gives them the grounds to justify the acts that follow.
Hitler was poor, Lenin was poor, Idi Amin was poor and all used their early life as a justification for the horrors to follow.
A nation of poor people, given the opportunity, form horrible governments that produce massive suffering and repressed freedoms.
There is a reason we are not a democracy and are, in fact, a republic. The poor, uneducated masses are not given as much power because the founding fathers knew their vote would be a selfish one - only seeking retribution on the wealthy, the landowners, the businesses and the folks that make a nation prosperous and comfortable.
The founding fathers knew this truth and found that balance between poor and rich, weighting vote power and office holding towards the rich.
Everyone is not equal.
Not in a longshot. Everyone has equal opportunity and is treated equally under the law. It says nothing about the upper tiers of government being easier to enter into if you are richer and better educated.
This is what the "wealthy elite" who pulled the USA out of practical experience had in mind. The poor had many more opportunities in the government set up by those who were well off - yet not titled or kings.
Make no mistake about it - the monarchy style government of kings were first created by formerly poor people who conquered others!
America is the land of upper middle class power. That is a very good thing. That the left use terms like "elitist" is typical - they are still stuck in the Marxist doctrines that put capitalism at the root of all evil.
Your use of "neocon" instead of republican is yesterday's divisive rhetoric, your appeal to REB or me to "return to the center" is Marxist blather to divide and conquer. By trying to break the Republican party into groups, the left feels it can diminish its steadily increasing clout.
By using the prefix "neo" which in the past twenty five years, politically, has been almost exclusively attached to the phrase neo-Nazi is no accident either and is part of that shallow Marxist divisiveness and slandering process.
Save the rhetoric for someone who's buying it. The Democrats back in power would just make things worse. The party has been radicalized since 2004 and all these leftists are just eager to get their share and will use death and destruction, exploiting some deaths, to advance their cause.
That's the real bottom line. Folks like Don and Bowser are the selfish exploiters of others misfortunes. They are the wanna-be Lenins trying to rile up the less educated to their cause. And their cause? Empowering themselves, psychologically, by knocking down their imagined oppressors.
The left here is clueless. No solution for terror. No solutions for islamofascism. Lenin was so eager to enjoy his newly found power he raced to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with Germany and lost Finland, Ukraine, The Baltics and parts of what would be Poland to Germany.
The Democrats in power would sign a "truce with Osama" for peace if they felt it would let them focus on consolidating their power at home.
Kerry felt diplomacy must pass some "International test" - a test graded by the corrupt Belgians, French and Germans. The left here hasn't moved past this attitude and still see the Iraq war as a failure when it has been a resounding success. Yes, you heard right - a resounding success.
Saddam is out. US Casualties low. Saddam is no longer in a position to build WMD by funds being funneled in from France and Germany unde a UN program and with Kofi Annan's son and the France UN ambassador's participation.
That's a victory. A BIG victory.
But the left is petty and are exactly what they hate in others - selfish. They would much rather have seen Saddam in power and Bush out of power because they are composed of largely somewhat simple, selfish folks.
So they repeat the mantra that Saddam was no threat, that the UN had him contained and that he was better for the Iraqi people and many other bald-faced and insane lies.
I'm sick of it. It literally makes me nauseous to contemplate the folks whose selfishness would return millions of people to tyranny just so THEY can empower themselves at home.
But thats the Democrat party and the far left in a nutshell.
Poverty often drives folks to desperate and insane lengths. Our founding fathers knew this. The Russian people, and people in nations all over the world have learned the hard way that being governed by the rich is not nearly so bad as being ruled by the "formerly" poor.
This is what the "wealthy elitists" such as myself, the "filthy rich" Benjamin Franklin or the "super wealthy" Thomas Jefferson were well educated in enough in history to fully comprehend.
