"When will you get it through your skull, the war in Iraq was NOT a war on terrorism... the threat of terrorism from Iraq was just as real as their stockpiles of WMD...."
Iraq was a threat to the region. Syria and Iran are also threats in region, but they took a different course than Saddam. Syria couldn't be considered a trustable ally, but it is behaving as an ally in regards to War on Terror. And Syria is *probably* assisting more in this regard than if Saddam was still in power. Iran hasn't really done anything blatently wrong [so far] in terms of international law- it is hostile to the US and is thought by the US to be heavily involved with supporting terrorists. But it's still kinda keeping in it's box. And though the US does identify it as rogue, this isn't neccessarily a view of other countries- such as Russia, China, etc.
An invasion of Iraq was not neccessary in War of Terror, but I agree with Clinton Adminstration decision that a regime change was needed. But had Saddam had made serious effort that demonstrated that he was willing to follow international law [specifically, the cease fire agreement] then that might have been enough. Saddam simply did not take the US or international communty seriously enough- and France is to blame for some of that.
