...was in a Fortune magazine circa 1999 when a young man who'd just made a small fortune on his IPO said "in the future everyone will be a millionaire". Other funny lines could be found when extinct publications like Red Herring were predicting universal internet access and the disappearance of "brick & mortar businesses" and a stock market permanently above 30,000.
The old boy network is obviously at work everywhere - not just silicon valley. Looking over the ledger of companies not in existence now that were funded and taken public by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in this period, it is much easier to count the few ones that still are.
I'm not trying to say the wealthy are saints. I'm just saying that when you look at the bigger picture the relatively educated wealthy tend to form more just governments than the poor.
Your appeal to a third party, I suspect is disingenuous. When you speak of Bush like the head of a monster that needs to be severed and the rest of the body must be cast out as well, I only see fanaticism and far liberal rhetoric.
To be quite honest, the pendulum swings to extremes and then reverses itself. We'll get a balanced government or an enlightened government when the masses qualify for one. Corruption can only thrive among those who accept and live by it. Violence too can only thrive in cultures that glorify it and accept it as part of their being.
A third party wont succeed anytime soon. It would be far easier to reform the existing parties into a semblance of 21st century balance.
I don't intend to throw out the baby with the bathwater. I supported the tax cut, privatized social security investments, vouchers, Afghanistan, Iraq and other GOP ventures and policies. I listed Bush's foibles earlier and policy failures and stand by those too.
The religious right could be diminished if the left in the educational arena focused on science, math and history rather than politics and diversity. A proper and comprehensive education in history teaches diversity, tolerance and the outcome of extreme political/religious movements by default.
If our educational system were up to par, the religious right would find much less empty mind fodder to consume. It might also slow corruption, greed and depravity. I wish it were as simple as throwing money at it, but to be honest education would be much more successful if television/cable signals were jammed for the next decade.
