You persist in trying to make this about moderation, despite the fact that a good part of the "treason!" thread was devoted to correcting that straw man spin.

Yet, now that I think about it, the issue of accusing people of "treason!" for speaking out is a concern for moderators, because although the false charge itself isn't technically a flame, it can have no other outcome than flaming. To wit:

Gary: "...people on the HabitableZone committing treason"

Me: "Fuck off, you fucking jack-booted brown-shirted Republifascist asshole thug!"

See the problem? You're welcome to call me a "traitor" and accuse me of "treason" if you want, but I promise you that I will rip you a new asshole, and we'll both end up censured by the moderator of whatever board we do that on. There's no restriction on your freedom of speech, but by long-established standards of civility at the Zone, disruptive speech belongs on Flame.

You misunderstand: I relish this fight because it's the frontline in the battle to preserve freedom of speech in the face of scurrilous attempts to destroy it through cryptofascist intimidation. The harder people like you and Gary try to shut me up, the harder I'll fight back. I'm by no means seeking to avoid the fight, only to spare the Zone the worst fallout from it and to try to keep it within reasonable bounds.

Go ahead, make my day. Call me a "traitor" for defending freedom of speech. I dare you.
