Affirmation?

I don't need affirmation. If I did, I would have been divorced 10 to 15 years ago. How do you conclude someone willing to disagree with 10 to 20 people at once needs affirmation rather than is simply acting on deep conviction? If somehow accurate this would be a mind bogling insight.

What I want is a place to engage in deep thoughtful discussions that challenge me mentally. Twice I've had that. In high school with a group that included 9 national merit semi-finalists +1 additional 1400 SAT achiever and 4 4.0 co valedictorians not in that group and a best friend who was a musical and mathematical whiz. I also had it in grad school with a multicultural group of chemical engineering graduate students. Among my closest friends there were a Lebanese Christian, a black/indian carribean, an Iranian supporter of the Ayatolla despite his very american lifestyle, and an Asian Indian. I loved the diversity of the later group and we had many boisterous discussions. At one point this place was close to those two groups. It is a far cry from it today.

Thanks for the responses even if they are bregrudging. I'm not going to "badger" you further if you honestly can't see the issue of borad hostility as an issue woth engaging in or that my comments have any relevance to it.
