I had forgotten that I had already pointed this out before.
However, it does not remove the point that I am making. If it was all about liberation for you, you certainly were silent about it before the Admin Spin Dept. rolled out the rhetoric. The lack of clarity and fog of rhetoric about why we were going to war in the first place, in my opinion, was a key factor in setting us up for this 'unknown unknown' situation we are in. We don't have a clear vision about why we are there, or what we really are seeking to accomplish, and thus don't have a clear Idea of the terms under which we can get out of there. Manwhile, the region has decayed into chaos, or enemies have gotten stronger, peole are dying... etc.
There is a real point here. The 'herd' that you were marching with marched us lockstep into this war. They, and you, would hear none of the voices saying that this was a bad idea, ill founded, unclear- etc. The 'discourse' in this country devolved into a situation in which the 'herd' shouted down and swft-boated everyone who dared speak up.
I am not seeking reticence or a 'gawsh! I'm sorry' from you or any other member of the herd. What I am insisting upon, however, is that there is some recognition of the fact that this behavior led our country into a gave state. Its not capitulation I seek, but for you and the rest of your 'tribe' to maybe walk away with a lesson that ratuitous mutual backslapping, fist-shaking, lock-step bellying-down of those who disagree with and cheerleading does not make the course you are heading in the correct choice for our country and is not a correct response to our historical legacy.
In short, all the former members of the herd seem to be collectively looking for scapegoats (UN, Europe, The Liberal Media, The Left, Cindy Sheehan, whatever) instead of giving any indication that they recognize the ice-berg that they drove our country into. I told-you-sos are not loved by anyone... But there is a serious point here.
Just peruse the rhetoric form this board from Jan, Feb and Early March of 2003. Just look at the news sources sited.
Even if there is no accountability, even if there is no recognition of error- there HAS to be some lesson learned. The fact that I see no attempt to account for what just happened to our country makes me fear for the future. After the debacle of Iraq, the world is now a far, far more dangerous place. We have, in essence, 'blown our lead' in the war on terror, and we now have to play some serious pick up. If you and your kin think our game plan so far has been a resounding success, then This is a serious problem.
