re: Moral knowledge

I never said Christians had a monopoly on morality.

For that matter, I never said that Christianity (or even religion in general) was the sole source of a moral code. Certainly you can't think that someone who has read the firmly-atheist Rand as much as I have would think that!

I simply theorized that a moderate, harmless religion might satisfy a need in human nature that might otherwise be diverted to a secular target with all-too-human failings.

The statements I made on moderation and religion apply to any faith or belief system. I mentioned my personal Midwestern background because it's the one I'm familiar with. If my background was moderate Muslim, the paragraph would have been from that perspective. Your perspective is different still. The main point stands: tolerance of different beliefs and moderation in your own make life easier for everyone. As with libertarian theory, you can swing the "arms" of religion around as long as you don't smack anyone's nose.

Again, the humility advice stands. An actual tally of the damage done through history by religious thugs vs. atheistic thugs is instructive.
