re: never happened

The cooling trend as only "a temporary blip" is commonly discussed by AGW advocates.

There are far too many people and organizations now whose livelihood, reputations, and in the case of the organizations, very existence, depends on the current AGW wisdom being true. There is power and wealth at stake, many billions of dollars in the latter case if recommended taxes and fees are enacted.

As time goes on, they will not readily accept anything that begins to depart from the models. The "temporary blip" will be applied to anything counter to the models, while equally temporary trends in the "right" direction will be proof positive of the model's virtue.

Have you noticed how much of their time is spent in attacking skeptics?
