Current Events » in reply to This Republican Politely Tells It Like It Is

Rush described his real role well.

Rush is the guy who says what they really think. He comes out with the 'line', while offering them some plausible deniability in polite company.

Rush can say anything, and amongst themselves Conservatives can agree. El Rushbo says it like it is! And then, with a wink, a nod and a nudge to fellow travellers, when in "mixed" company they can talk about how he's over the top, he really doesn't mean what he said, that he's far, far beyond what honest, decent and partiotic Conservatives stand for.

And then they go back to supporting him at the rate of $50 million a year not counting various ads and merchandise sold. He doesn't make that much because he's irrelevant.

I absolutely will agree that he doesn't completely represent moderate Republicans in the energy and directness he brings to bear on some topics. I will also agree that moderate Republicans are far, far more interested in the United States as a whole than Rush, who interested in their ideology and the hell with the country.

And Rush does well what he does - represent an ideology which is supremely interested in the material, and bereft of patriotism, compassion, or values beyond that which can be counted.
